A memorial service will be held at a later date for Everett Laffette Washburn, 80, in Merced County where he resided most of his life. Everett passed away on May 30 in Tehachapi where he lived for the past nine years. Everett was born on June 4, 1925 in Oakland to Ray and Minnie Washburn of Tennessee.

He enjoyed deer hunting, fishing, tennis and football. He was a member of the NRA and enjoyed gold mining in the Mariposa area.

Everett is survived by his wife, Gloria Washburn of Tehachapi; son, James Washburn of Merced; daughters, Threse Daniels and Carol Vargas of Merced; stepson, Michael Chesebrough of Tehachapi; stepdaughter, Cheryl Caffee of Ellenwood, Kan.; half-brother, Pete Washburn of Louisiana; 10 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Wood Family Funeral Service handled the arrangements.
