The Tehachapi City Council met Monday, June 5, to finalize discussion of the proposed 2006/2007 budget.
Revenue to fund the planned projects will come from new bond issuances and fees for approximately 300 new residential connections each year over the next five years.
Some enterprise expenditures include:
• $100,000 to retrofit water connections with radio-read meters.
• $30,000 for the annual water banking program, ensuring water availability in drought years.
• $125,543.00 to continue providing public transportation for area residents
• $122,000 for fire hydrant replacement.
• $2,020,000 for the Curry storage tank, transmission line replacement and the Curry well booster pump rebuild.
Capital projects:
• $1,400,000 for downtown improvements
• $50,000 for the Tehachapi Depot roof
Gas tax fund expenditures:
• $100,000 for the Elm Street storm drain
When asked by Tehachapi resident, Evelyn Spoon why the information was not listed in the newspaper, city accountant Hannah Chung said, “This is a workshop process. There will be several changes. Once the budget is approved, it will be available to the public.”
Mayor Ed Grimes further stated that it would be best to come to city hall to see the entire budget.

So where is the $100,000 for the fire study. I would like to see the facts, figures and reasons that justify a full time city fire dept. We have not seen anything or heard anything justifying this, the city council and city manager will not answer questions so how are we to believe that this is a good idea. I honestly think they do not want to release any of these things because they can not justify having a full time fire dept they just don't want to admit it.

Full Time fire department, WHY? Not needed, inexperienced, cost to much for the city. The study will show what the city wants it to show. lets work on getting new leaders, ones that will work for us, the tax payer.
