The Tehachapi Branch of the Kern County Library hosted Flights of Fantasy Story Theatre on Wednesday June 13.
The two-woman interactive show featured the dramatic storytelling talents of Lorrie Oshatz and Theresa Amy of Los Angeles.
Colorful costume changes and audience participation kept children and adults entertained as the duo’s boisterous dialogue and silly antics illustrated classic folk tales and contemporary literature.
“We find the stories that kids are reading and turn it into a script or a play to encourage an interest in reading,” said Oshatz.
Their unique style of storytelling combines vaudeville comedy with multi-cultural literature. The professional storytellers perform regularly throughout Southern California.
Working closely with the Los Angeles Unified School District, the performers encourage teachers to include drama in their curriculum to enhance literacy skills and promote reading, while offering an entertaining theatrical experience.
The event was sponsored by the Friends of the Tehachapi Library as part of the summer reading program, Paws Claws, Scales and Tales. The Tehachapi Branch is located at 1001 West Tehachapi Blvd. Call 822-4938 for information on upcoming events.
