Tim Sebra of Mountain Martial Arts will be inducted into the United StatesMartial Arts Hall of Fame in a presentation ceremony to be held in St. Louis, on July 15. Sebra will be featured in an upcoming Tehachapi News community close up.

“I’m kind of feeling unworthy,” Sebra said, adding that he still feels “a bit giddy” about the honor.

Sebra, a third-degree black belt, is the founder of San Kai Kempo, which represents a combination of three distinct Kempo styles. He has been teaching in Tehachapi for 19 years.

Having lost his mother and a sister to cancer, Sebra is an avid suppport of the Relay for Life. When he announced to his students that he wouldn’t be able to join his school’s two teams for this year’s event, they were confused.

Then Sebra’s wife announced to the students that he would be attending the awards ceremony in St. Louis, to be honored among some of the sport’s most renowned achievers, including artists such as Chuck Norris, Toshiro Mifune, Jackie Chan, Steven Seagall and Bruce Lee.

“They gave me a big round of applause, but I think it will be more real when I come back with the award,” Sebra said.

The Martial Arts Hall of Fame was established in 1999 in order to create more uniformity in the martial arts community the. The hall recognizes champions, legends, masters, pioneers and most of all significant achievers.
