Jean P. Daniels entered into rest on June 3, at the age of 84. Her death was remarkably peaceful. Jean was born in San Bernardino and later moved to Tehachapi.
During World War II, Jean worked for North American Aviation, where she met and later married her husband Jack. For most of their marriage they lived in the Seaside Ranchos neighborhood of Torrance.
While still actively parenting a young family, Jean returned to school, earning a bachelors degree and a teaching credential from Long Beach State University. Jean taught for 20 years at Wilmington Park Elementary School. In retirement, Jean remained a member of Kappa Kappa Iota teacher’s sorority.
Jean loved children, travel, education, music and dance. She was also an avid genealogist, tracing her ancestors back to their arrival in America in 1639. She was a past president of the Colonial Dames XVII Century, Williamsburg Chapter and a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
She became an expert on paper preservation and was frequently invited to give presentations on the topic.
Most importantly, Jean was gentle and loving in everything she did as a wife and mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, caring sister, loyal friend and attentive teacher. She will be greatly missed by all of her family, friends, former students and colleagues.
Jean’s husband of 53 years, Walter “Jack” Daniels, Jr. preceded her in death in 1996 as did her brother, Mark Porter. Jean is survived by her three sons, Walter A. Daniels and his wife, Louisa, of Millbrae; Benjamin G. Daniels and his wife, Marilyn, of Torrance; and Dan J. Faurot-Daniels and his wife, Ellen, of Aromas; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; numerous nephews, nieces and cousins; her loving younger sister, Phyllis Vukich of Fullerton; and her sister-in-law, Hazel Daniels, of Shreveport, La.
A funeral service was held June 17 in the Rainbow Chapel at Rose Hills Memorial Park in Whittier.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests making a donation in Jean’s name to a charity or public school enrichment program of your choice. Sign the guest book at www.dailybreeze.com/obits/.
