A rosary was recited on June 30 at St. Malachy Catholic Church for Mary Sausman, 88, who passed away on June 23 in Bothell, Wash. A graveside service was held on July 1 at the Tehachapi Public Cemetery, Westside.

Mary was born on Jan. 1, 1918 in Tehachapi to Biajio and Caterina Giraudo. She was raised in the country on the family ranch off Highline Road. She attended local schools and graduated from Tehachapi High School. Mary went on to attend Bakersfield Business College.

She was married to George Julian Sausman of Tehachapi in Las Vegas, Nev. on Sept. 26, 1940. To celebrate the 50th wedding anniversary, they travelled to Nashville, Tenn. where they attended the Grand Ole Oprey. They were married for nearly 63 years before George’s passing in 2003.

Mary loved being a homemaker and a stay-at-home mom. She was devoted to her husband and two sons. Many will remember the daily walks that George and Mary took around town holding hands. Mary was a meticulous housekeeper and a wonderful cook. She was a very active member of Saint Malachy Catholic church and was involved in the Parent Teacher Association and Cub Scouts. One of Mary’s great joys in the later years, besides her grandchildren, was attending the Old-Timers’ picnic in the park.

Mary was predeceased by her sisters, Lou Capdeville and Laura Adams; and brother, Domenico Giraudo. Mary is survived by her sons, Edward Sausman of Bothell, Wash. and George Robert Suasman of Pahrump, Nev.; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Wood Family Funeral Service handled the arrangements.
