The accolades just keep flooding in for Tehachapi High School athletics, particularly for Jacob Rombouts, EJ Muro, Katie Snapp, Tessa Brown and Michael Halaska.
After making first team All-League in both basketball and baseball and an All-Area honorable mention pick in basketball, Jacob Rombouts added a first-team All-Area selection in baseball to his list of accomplishments in helping to guide the Warriors basketball team to a back-to-back SSL championship this past spring.
Rombouts, a junior, was selected to the first team after leading all CIF Division III teams in home runs with 10. The home run mark was good for third in the county behind seniors Tyler Garewal (Centennial) and Luke Yoder (Liberty), who both knocked in 12 long bombs apiece.
Rombouts also had a .446 batting average, good for sixth in the county, and bringing in 36 runs tied for third in the entire section.
Making second-team All-Area honors in baseball was senior EJ Muro, who was selected after helping Tehachapi to a team leading 13 doubles along with a second place mark in home runs with four. Muro was also third on the team in batting average at .405. This is the second All-Area recognition for Muro, garnering All-Area honorable mention in football following the 2005 season.
In softball, sophomore pitcher Katie Snapp received an All-Area honorable mention for her fine work in the circle for the SSL champion Lady Warriors, finishing the year with a 9-1 record and an earned run average of .870. Snapp also was a strong contributor at the plate, finishing with a .333 batting average.
In swimming, Tessa Brown capped a stellar season for the Lady Warrior SSL championship swim team with a second team All-SSL selection for her accomplishments in the breaststroke. Brown won the Division II CIF championship in the 100-meter breaststroke, while also helping the Tehachapi 200 medley relay and 200 free relay to a fourth place finish, and getting fifth in the 50 free. Brown’s first place in the 100-meter breaststroke was Tehachapi’s lone gold in the section finals.
In the SSL championships, Brown dominated the opposition to help the Lady Warriors gather a commanding 348 team points. Brown’s contribution included a first place finish in the team 200 medley relay, the 50 free, the team 200 free relay and the 100 breast stroke.
In boys swimming, Michael Halaska became the second sophomore at THS (other was Brandon Rooney – cross country) to make first team All-Area in a sport. Halaska capped a brilliant 10th-grade year with an eye-turning performance in the SSL finals, taking home the gold for Tehachapi in the 200 individual medley and the 100 free, while also bringing in a first place finish in the team 200 free. In the Division II section finals, Halaska received a pair of second place marks in the 200 individual medley and the 100 free, and received sixth in the team 200 free.
