Tehachapi Little League is in the thick of All-Star action, with many of the community’s youth still in contention in their respective brackets and divisions.
In 9- to 10-year-old baseball All-Star action, Tehachapi had two teams represented in Area 2, facing off in bracket play with California City and Kern River.
One of the Tehachapi representing teams defeated Cal City 10-0 on the five-inning mercy rule behind the bat of Bobby Howell, who went 3-3, and Michael Llamas, who recorded a hit and two RBIs. Reid Feeley, Ryan Flick, Justin Godde and David Carter also had hits for Tehachapi.
In the 10- to 11-year-old baseball division, Tehachapi won its area title by defeating Rosamond last Friday 11-0, and will go on in the tournament at a later date against Wpaill, Palmdale, Quartz Hill, El Dorado, or Parkview.
Leading the way for Tehachapi against Rosamond was Blake Waters and Davis Algra, who both had three runs scored apiece. Both players also recorded a double, with Algra two back-to-back stolen bases in the second inning. The game was called after Rosamond completed the fifth inning, with Tehachapi going to the plate four innings overall.
In major baseball All-Star action, Tehachapi defeated Cal City 10-2 to face off against Kern River for the Area 2 championship. Ross Feeley and Levi Garrett each scored three times to lead the offense attack, while Corey Lange and Kaptizke both recorded doubles. Casey Cardon and Cody Hall also recorded runs in the game, with Hall blasting a home run in the bottom of the fifth inning.
The junior baseball All-Stars won their bracket with victories over Rosamond, 5-4 and 8-5, after dropping their first meeting with Rosamond 9-8.
In Tehachapi’s opening game against Rosamond last Wednesday, Zach St. John, Zach Pettitt and Corey Torres each batted 2-2 to help the All-Stars to 15 hits overall in the 9-8 loss. Anthony Urso had two doubles, while Brock Tessandori, Corey Torres and Zach Pettitt each had a double apiece. Bo Budge was at the mound for the All-Stars, pitching five innings overall.
In the second game last Thursday, Brock Tessandori, Tyler Domingo, Zach St. John, Jacoh Hardman, Anthony Urso, and Damien Halpin each logged in a hit, while Domingo and Robert Seigmund recorded an RBI to help Tehachapi take the second game victory. Jimmy Lopez got the win on the mound after allowing only two earned runs and amassing three Ks.
Tehachapi’s final game against Rosamond had Robert Seigmund scoring three times, with a 2-2 plate appearance overall. Brock Tessandori recorded a double in the fourth inning to help clinch the 8-5 win.
In softball, the District 51 All-Star Majors Tournament, hosted by Quartz Hill Little League, had Tehachapi facing off last Saturday against Rosamond for the right to play the winner of Parkview and Quartz Hill, but the score was not available at press time.
In junior league action, Tehachapi faced off with Cal City on Sunday, with the winner to play the victor between the Kern River and Palmdale/Rosamond winner.
In senior action, Tehachapi dropped its game against Parkview but was still in contention Saturday with a game against El Dorado.
