Starlight Theater

Every Thursday evening at City Park, the Tehachapi Valley Recreation and Parks District will show a movie on the “big screen” at no cost to the Tehachapi community. All movies will be rated G, PG or PG-13 and will be posted each week in the Tehachapi News during the summer. We invite you to grab your blankets and join us under the stars. This week’s movie will be High School Musical.

Times: 8:15 p.m.

Dates: every Thursday beginning June 22

Adventure Camp


This summer TVRPD is hosting a 10-week day camp full of adventure and fun. The children will be making crafts such as clay whistles, sand painting, paper mache, painted rocks and clay bugs, jewelry projects, paper butterflies and paper crafts. In addition, the children go to the pool three days a week, play games and, with an additional cost, have the option of attending field trips on Fridays. Each week there is a different theme including Jurassic Park week, Disney week, Harry Potter week, Pirates of the Caribbean week, under the sea week and medieval times week. There are also trips to the bowling alley, roller and ice skating and miniature golf.

Time: from 6:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Ages: 5 to 13

Cost: $100 per week

Place: the new Scout Hall, located at 311 E. D St.

Old Timers Picnic

The Old Timers picnic, sponsored by Bakersfield Family Medical, will be held on Aug. 6 by invitation only. This year’s picnic will be held at the West Park Activity Center.

If you have lived in Tehachapi for 40 years and want to be added to the mailing list, call TVRPD at 822-3228.

Registration: 10 a.m.

Lunch served: noon

Volleyball Camp

The Tehachapi High School Varsity Volleyball coach and staff will offer a volleyball camp designed to teach the skills necessary to compete and have fun playing volleyball. Participants will receive individual as well as group instruction of fundamentals of passing, setting, hitting and other aspects of volleyball. Each participant will receive a camp tee-shirt as well as useful information to take with them and practice on their own. Both girls and boys are welcome to attend.

Session 1: August 7 to 11

Ages: 8 to 11

Times: 2- 3:30 p.m.

Cost: $50

Session 2: August 7 to 11

Ages: 12 to 14

Times: 4- 5:30 p.m.

Cost: $50

Recreation Swim


Daily: Monday to Friday from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m.

Nightly: Tuesday, Friday and Saturday from 8 to 10 p.m.

Weekends: Saturday and Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m.

Cost: $3

Co-ed softball

It is time to start thinking about forming teams for the 2006 season of co-ed softball. Entry fee for this year’s league is $400 per team with a $20 forfeit deposit. Fee includes softballs, umpires, lights, scorekeepers and field maintenance for twelve games. Have team roster and payment to the TVRPD office by no later than Aug. 7. Games will be played Mondays through Thursdays at 6:30, 7:45, and 9 p.m. starting Aug. 14 and ending Sept. 28.
