In Memory of Camila Sanchez Cortez

Rosary will be recited on July 16 at 7 p.m. and Mass of the Christian Burial will be held on July 19 at 10 a.m. at Saint Malachy Catholic Church for Camila Sanchez Cortez, 90, who passed away on July 12 in Tehachapi, surrounded by her loving family.
Camila was born in Nochistlan, Zacatecas, Mexico to parents Santana and Andrea Sanchez of Mexico. She was brought to the United States on a horse at the age of five. Camila lived in El Paso, Texas and Barstow, eventually ending up in Tehachapi for 85 years. Camila married Melecio V. Cortez on May 12, 1935. They were married for 63 years before he passed away in 1999.
Camila enjoyed gardening and loved her flowers, especially her roses. She loved going to Las Vegas to see her Bellagio and her flowers. She was a very loving and giving person to anyone who came in her home, Camila always showed unconditional love. She was a very devoted housewife and a very strong and independent person. Camila was a very loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who was loved by her seven wonderful children.
Camila was preceded in death by her Husband, Melecio V. Cortez; sons, Samuel S. and Larwance B. Cortez. Camila is survived by sons, Victor and his wife, Lois, of Santa Clara; Robert and his lifelong partner, William Sandal, of Alameda; Michael and his wife, Judy, of Valley Springs; Andrew and his wife, Nancy, of Tehachapi; and Manuel Sanchez of San Jose; daughter, Estella Martinez and her husband, Manuel, of Tehachapi; brothers, John Sanchez and his wife, Darlene, of San Jose; 20 beautiful grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, extended family and her Dreamy Eyes.
Internment will be held at Tehachapi Public Cemetery, Westside. Wood Family Funeral Service handled the arrangements.
