Do you remember the time when there were no free movies in the park? Actually, it wasn’t that long ago, but like most good things people have probably become accustomed to it and haven forgotten that it hasn’t always been available.
Since the big screen started lighting up the park with movies, families and individuals have enjoyed spending Thursday nights sitting on folding chairs or lounging on a blanket watching a movie in the pleasant Tehachapi air.
The cost for the entertainment? Just show up. It’s become a great weekly event that residents can afford. However, lately some viewers have taken the free entertainment for granted.
They not only don’t appreciate the efforts of the Tehachapi Valley Recreation and Parks District to provide the free shows, they add injury to insult by sometimes strewing the park with trash. While the trash problem has diminished a little, other problems are impacting the fun, movie-going event.
Youth under the age of 18 are disrupting the enjoyment of those who are trying to listen to the dialogue of the movie.
I’m sure that if people showed up on a Thursday summer night and were told no more movies, they’d be disappointed. In fact, some would start to whine and gripe and even shout. So why can’t people who are getting a great service show a little respect and walk a few feet to the garbage can?
Likewise, why are parents who have teenagers and children attending movies, not attending with them and making sure they aren’t disrupting others.
Maybe some are lazy, perhaps they don’t care, but more then likely they just don’t know how to appreciate what is offered to them free of charge.
