Tehachapi Little League closed the season this past week after another great run in summer baseball, with three Tehachapi teams representing the community in the District 51 Little League championships.
In the 9- to 10-year-old division, Tehachapi’s first team won the Area Two championship with victories over California City 10-0, Kern River 13-0 and Kern River 13-1, losing only once to Kern River, 6-3.
In the 13-1 championship-clinching game, Tehachapi got up on Kern River early, scoring seven runs in the top of the first led by Ryan Flick going 4-4 with two RBIs and scoring three runs to lead the offense. Davin Domingo went 2-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored, and Levi Fane, Joe Barba and Caleb McKinnon each scored two runs to contribute to the onslaught. Reid Feely, Davin Domingo and Ryan Flick all recorded a stolen base in the game, and David Carter led the team in strikeouts with three in one inning pitched. Bobby Howell got the win on the mound with two strikeouts and no earned runs in the contest. As a team, Tehachapi did not record a single error in the game.
Tehachapi also had representation from a second team in 9- to 10-year-old division area play, with that team defeating Kern River 13-3, Cal City 18-3 and dropping a game to Kern River 11-8.
In the District 51 championships, our local youth dropped their first round game to Quartz Hill 10-0 to end their great season. Against Quartz Hill, Ryan Flick and Caleb McKinnon both recorded hits, while Bobby Howell led the team with two strikeouts pitching, 39 strikes overall.
The 10- to 11-year-old division also had Tehachapi winning the Area Two championship, defeating Rosamond in a pair of games, 5-2 and 11-0, to earn a berth in the District 51 tourney in Palmdale/Lancaster.
In the championships, Tehachapi dropped their first game against Quartz Hill in a close 9-7 loss and ended their season with another nail-biter, an 8-5 defeat at the hands of Parkview.
In the Majors division, Tehachapi clawed their way to the Area Two championship against Kern River after defeating Cal City 10-2, but lost to the Lake Isabella contingent 7-1 to end their season.
The Juniors Tehachapi team won the Area Two championship by winning two games out of three against Rosamond, dropping their first game 9-8 and then fighting back to win the next two 5-4 and 8-5.
Tehachapi lost to Bishop in their first round District 51 tourney game 4-1 to end a great year of summer baseball play. Against Bishop, Brock Tessandori and Anthony Urso both had doubles while Tyler Domingo, Jimmy Lopez and Zach St. John all recorded hits in the game. Tessandori scored Tehachapi’s run and Bo Budge logged in an RBI. Tessandori led the team with five strikeouts, pitching against 12 batters, while St. John was close behind with four Ks on 22 batters faced.
Three out of four Tehachapi teams ended their season as Area Two champions in All-Star play.
