Janet Edith Manty, a long time resident of the Tehachapi area, passed away on Wednesday, Aug. 16, in Tehachapi.

Janet was born Oct. 17, 1933, in Los Angeles to Rupert and Nellie Annin Smith.

Jan, as she preferred to be called, was a compassionate and loving person. While living in Kingman, Ariz. she began her own company, Alternative Care, which provided help and care giving services to individuals and families with loved ones unable to care for themselves.

She was a 24 year member of Alcoholics Anonymous. Here in Tehachapi, Jan served in many capacities in the program to help others achieve and maintain sobriety.

In 1998, on Feb. 21, Janet married James Henry Manty. Mrs. Manty was an excellent seamstress and designer. She took those creative talents outside as an avid gardener, beautifully landscaping their Stallion Springs property, a place she dearly loved.

Jan is survived by her husband, Jim Manty of Stallion Springs; son, Stephen Liembach of Washington; daughters, Lori Liembach and Nina McCune of Las Vegas; stepson, Stephen Manty of Bakersfield; granddaughters, Christie and Julie Manty of Bakersfield; granddaughter, J'me Rose Manty of Bakersfield; and great-grandson, Jake McCune of Las Vegas. Mrs. Manty was preceded in death by her son, Larry Liembach and stepdaughter, Jaime Rose Manty.

She will be truly missed by those who knew her.

Wood Family Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
