Vigil Service was held on Tuesday, Aug. 15 and Mass of the Resurrection was celebrated on Wednesday, Aug. 16 at St. Malachy Catholic Church for life long Tehachapi resident Joseph Anthony Bravo Sr., 85, who passed away on Aug. 12.
Joseph was born in Monolith on Feb. 17, 1921, to Severo and Josepha Valdivia Bravo. He remained in the Tehachapi area all of his life.
Mr. Bravo was a member of the United States Army, serving his country in World War II in the European Theater. He was a Private First Class in the 354th Infantry Regiment and his military occupational specialty was as a heavy machine gunner. He served at Normandy, France, as well as other campaign areas and was decorated with the American Campaign Medal, European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal and the World War II Victory Medal.
Mr. Bravo was a true family man, a very kind and loving individual and he was admired by his family. He loved to be around the house doing carpentry and woodwork, tending to his vegetable garden, chickens and his morning ritual of feeding the quail.
Joseph loved to travel around the states in his motor home with Cora, his wife. A favorite place of theirs was Alaska, to visit her children and their grandchildren.
He was also a member of St. Malachy Catholic Church.
Joseph is survived by his wife, Cora Jane Hainline of Tehachapi; sons, Joseph Anthony and Helen Bravo Jr. of Elk Grove, Manuel Perez of Las Vegas; daughter, Karmen Loftis of Hidden Valley Lake; stepson, Robert and Marguerite Yett of Homer, Alaska; stepdaughter, Geraldine and Brent Edmunds of Anchorage, Alaska; grandchildren, Anthony and Bravo of Elk Grove and Ryan and Desire Jane Edmunds of Anchorage, Alaska; sisters, Madeline Manzanti of Tehachapi and Frances Cortez of Bakersfield; nieces, Jessica Pimentel and Kuki Hickey of Tehachapi, Adele Embry of Oceano, Ruby of Sugarland, Texas and Shirley of Los Angeles; nephew, Frank and Micki Cervantes of Tehachapi; grandnieces, Cassandra, Tonya and Anita Pimentel, all of Tehachapi; and grandnephew Anthony Cervantes of Tehachapi. Mr. Bravo was preceded in death by Mary Pimentel and C.B. Garcia.
Following the service at St. Malachy’s, interment took place at Tehachapi Public Cemetery – Westside. Wood Family Funeral Service handled the arrangements.
