Jesus’ little lambs

One day Jesus decided to take His apostles to a quiet place where they could get some rest. But a large crowd of people refused to leave them alone. They followed Jesus and demanded that He continue to teach them and heal them.

You might expect that Jesus would have been irritated by this crowd and told them to go away. But the Bible tells us that, "He had compassion on them because they were like sheep without a shepherd." His love for them prevented Him from sending them away.

Jesus had compassion on them because He is the Good Shepherd who came into the world to show all people God's love. He fulfilled God's plan for our salvation and He lived a life of sharing God's love.

I wonder if we sometimes act like sheep without a shepherd. Maybe we would rather make all of our own decisions and do whatever feels best to us.

We may even be led to turn away from God's will and act in selfishness. When this happens our Lord comes to us, not to punish us, but to guide us back to God.

God helps us repent of our sins and assures us of His forgiveness. Even though He knows our faults, He still has compassion on us.

Now it is important for us to stay close to God and trust His guidance like little lambs trust their shepherd. No matter what we have done in the past, God is calling us back to Him.

We can come back to God as we study His Word, speak to Him in prayers, and gather together with others who are worshipping Him. Then we will be assured that, although we sometimes act like sheep without a shepherd, we know that we are Jesus' little lambs.
