Tony was born on June 12, 1944 and passed away on July 14 at this home in Tehachapi. He is survived by his wife, Jeannie, with whom Tony celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary last month; their two sons, Chris and Mike and their wives, Barbie and Laura. His wonderful grandchildren Casie, Dylan, Codie, Nicholas and Olivia will miss their grandpa very much. He was the loving brother of Kay (Robert) McDaniel, Rita (Amos) Martinez, Bonnie Lane, Debbie (Randy) Ojeda, David (Peggy) Brodeur, Ken (Susan) Brodeur and Gary (Ronda) Brodeur.

Tony enlisted into the US Navy in 1964 and was married to Jeannie, his loving and dedicated wife on June 11, 1966. He discharged from the Navy in 1968 when his first son, Chris, was born in Long Beach. They moved back to North Dakota to a town called Grand Forks and, shortly after, his second son, Mike, was born in 1969. The Brodeurs then moved back to Long Beach in 1975 where Tony started working for Glenn E. Thomas Dodge as a mechanic and continued with Glen E. Thomas for the next 22 years until his retirement in 1997.

Tony was a man that loved God’s land. He would go to his brother David’s farm in North Dakota every year to help harvest the crops. And in between, he took care of his farm in Tehachapi and would write the “Family Ties” each month for all the Brodeur clan to enjoy. He was a man who took great pride in his accomplishments and loved ending the day tired and sore, knowing that he made a difference.

He loved to camp and build fires where he would sit and contemplate anything and everything over a good meal and a nice glass of whiskey. He wrote a lot of poems and prayers for his family and friends, who found them inspirational and moving. He used them for himself as well, to help him heal spiritually and emotionally when he was down.

This is a poem/prayer that Tony wrote in May of 2003. For all those who read this, please pray for the wonderful man, husband and father that will be missed so very much. We love you Tony, and miss you more then you’ll ever know.

Mary’s Nest
I sat in Church the other day.
Had a minute, stopped to pray.
I saw Mary say good bye,
for in her arms her son did lie.
Off the cross she held him near
This son of hers that she held dear,
for on the cross he died that day,
so that our sins he’d take away.
I know she said, this had to be,
but the hurt inside is killing me.
For on this earth he was a man,
that this was all part of the plan.
He lay there crumpled at her chest, like a small bird in its nest,
If she could, she’d take away,
the terrible pain he felt that day.
Eyes are wet stained with tears,
for inside she feels the fears.
Will her son have died in vain?
Because on earth we refuse to change, I know that I am the worst,
for making excuses here on earth.
When it’s my time my soul to rest,
can I Mary, be in that nest?
