Tehachapi resident Frieda Schuler passed away on Sept. 7 at her home in Tehachapi, with family at her side.
Frieda was born Aug. 30, 1924, in Hurley, N.M., to Ben and Siddie Dearing. She joins them along with two sisters, Gene and Lorraine, and brother, Alva, who have all gone on before her. This darling and loving family — the Dearing family, is fully united at last.
Frieda grew up in Globe, Ariz., where she drove dump trucks for a copper mine which helped to fill the United States’ need for metals during World War II.
She moved to Los Angeles, where she worked for an aircraft manufacturer along with thousands of other “Rosie-the-Riveters.”
She moved on to work at Northrup Aircraft, then to TRW's aerospace division in Redondo Beach, where she worked as a senior pricing analyst until her retirement in 1977, when she moved to her beloved Tehachapi.
Frieda could tell you just about anything about anything and did not hesitate to do so. Anyone who knew Frieda Schuler will attest to her passionate expression of many stories, and the strong and unrestrained opinions that accompanied them. Anyone who knew Frieda will also remember the sincere interest she expressed in people she knew well or had just met, for the humor that perforated her narratives to the generosity that permeated the many expressions of her huge and kind heart.
She loved dancing, music, all animals and, most of all, coffee and conversation with good friends.
Frieda is survived by her only child, daughter Sheri Elsworth of North Hollywood; nieces Cheryl Howard, Tracie Roberts, Lori Catton, Diane, Emily, and Joanne of Las Vegas as well as nephews Allen Howard, John Kilcoyne, Ron Cordy, Rickey Dearing, and Joshua and Cameron Roberts, of Tehachapi.
A memorial service to celebrate Frieda Schuler's life, which has been a gift to her family and friends, will be held on Sept. 18 at 2 p.m. at the Wood Family Chapel in Tehachapi. Arrangements were made by Wood Family Funeral Service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Hoffman Hospice in Bakersfield.
