All Christians struggle with the evil and temptations around us. We fight against immorality and we avoid joining in with wickedness.
As we are going through all of this, we may wonder if Jesus understands how
difficult it is to live in obedience to God. The Bible says that our Lord lived in perfect obedience to His Father.
Jesus experienced, during His earthly life, having to live in reverent submission. He experienced what it is like to face the fears, difficulties, and challenges of life as a human being on this earth.
To win our salvation Jesus had to follow His Father's plan for our salvation. This meant that He would look and sound like a regular person and would not fully use His divine power.
As our Savior, Jesus fulfilled all of God's prophecies about the Messiah, including that He would be a suffering servant. Jesus obeyed God's will when He paid the price for our sins by going to a cross and dying for us.
Now God is calling on us to grow in our obedience toward Him. This will require us to set aside our greed and selfishness and replace them with kindness and compassion.
Our obedience toward God is tested each day when we have a choice between being lazy or working to serve God. When we use our time and talents to serve God we are acting in obedience.
Each Sunday our obedience to God is tested when we are tempted to not go to church. When we join others who are worshipping God and learning how to better serve Him we are acting in obedience.
As we grow in our obedience toward God, we will also grow in our faith and our joy. May God guide us to always live in obedience toward Him.
