Al was a Speech Pathologist for 37 years in Orange and Kern Counties. He was a member of the American Legion, a Korean War veteran, Elder of Mountain Bible Church and past board member of Tehachapi’s Family Life Pregnancy Center.

His favorite pastimes were spent in developing his writing skills through his church’s “Live and Learn” column and an occasional rebuttal submitted to local papers. Al’s love of trains stemmed from his father’s job as a conductor for the Southern Pacific Railroad.
His love, humor, spiritual leadership and mentorship will be missed by family, friends and many fellow co-workers.

Al was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Ferne Morris and son, Lewis Gene Morris.

He is survived by his wife Ruth, of 51 years; son, James Morris, of Orange and daughter, Bonnie Mata, of Tehachapi; grandchildren Vincent, Connor and Sean Morris, Cherish Anderson, John and Tara Pennington, Kimberly Morris-Haydu and Brianna Morris, Ricky and Janelle Breneman, P.J. and Tyler Mata, and Amanda Phillips; great-grandchildren Tawny, Summer and Destiny Breneman, Timothy Olvany and Ellias Breneman, due this month.

A memorial service was held Saturday, Oct. 14, at Mountain Bible Church followed by a private internment at Tehachapi Public Cemetery– Westside. Pastor Marvin Slifer officiated both services.

Arrangements were made by Wood Family Funeral Service.
