It appears that Henry Schaeffer's Write-In didn't pull enough votes so we are going to have to put up with still ANOTHER 4 years of Phil Smith. (Isn't 20 + years enough?)

At least we won't have Marianna Teel for ANOTHER 4 years and I, for one, am looking forward to Stan Beckham's tenure to replace her.

Now, get this people, we DON'T have to accept 4 MORE years of Phil Smith's mantra of wanting to ensure "same old-same old". (He calls it "continuity"...HA!) Let's hold his feet to the fire for these 4 years and make sure he responds to US...THE ELECTORATE, whom he is here to serve...and NOT his own agenda.! More of the PAST will not enable us to move into the FUTURE! Don't you all agree?

Reply to City Lady. How do I know WHAT? And WHAT numbers are you talking about? If you are referring to Smith's 20+ years in City politics he publicly stated this at the Council meeting of Sept. 18, 2006. Ask the City Clerk for a transcript. If that still doesn't convince you, ask Smith! Jim Richards

Jim - I think she meant how do you know Henry didn't pull in enough votes? Also, I thought if Henry gets in he'll push Vernon out, and Smith will still be in there anyway.??

Well, I do have several redeeming social values but mind-reading is not one of them. Yesterday (Wednesday) I called the Tehachapi News and spoke to someone by the name of Vikki who is their resident expert on the local election and asked her whether Henry made it ... or not. She replied that he just barely missed it. So, that is my source. If she was wrong, I am glad. But, I STILL have not seen anything authoritative that is posted about it either on the Tehachapi News website or on the City's. Jim Richards

Your not a mind reader but you are a rumor spreader. So your saying your post is hearsay? Why would I ask about Smith? We all know he has been in city hall to long!

I'd like to reply to this. All election totals are currently considered "unofficial" until certified by the Kern County Elections Division, which is not projecting an official "result" until Dec. 1. They have not even begun to count the write-in votes as yet. When Mr. Richards called in, no one identified themselves as elections experts, but read him the results from the County site, as they were posted. Mr. Richards was informed that Mr. Schaeffer's name was not on the list. There was no mention of the degree to which he did or did not make it. He was read the names of the people on the list who garnered the most votes. Our apologies if he interpreted that as anything other than what it was. No one will know for sure until the write-in votes are counted, and that will not happen until all of the ballots are counted a second time, according to the Elections Division. When an actual, official tally has been provided by the Elections Division you can be sure that The Tehachapi News will post them.
