Services were held on Thursday, Nov. 30, at 2 p.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints Chapel for a long-time resident Barbara King, 74, who passed away on Nov. 23 in Bakersfield after a lengthy illness.
Barbara was born to Vyrl and Janie Pearl McLaughlin on May 9, 1932, in Denair. She attended schools in the Central Valley and graduated high school at the age of 16 from Turlock High School in 1949. After graduation she moved to Roseburg, Ore., where she met and married her husband, John, in January, 1950, and enjoyed a life together for almost 57 years.
Barbara moved with her family to Sanger in 1957 and then to Tehachapi in August of 1961. She was employed by Spencer Lees of California as a garment-cutting supervisor until its closing. She then became officer manager for dentists Cavellini and Markiewitz in October of 1977, and remained until her retirement in 1986.
Barbara along with husband, John, were fundamental in forming and establishing the Tehachapi Community Theater in 1968. She performed in many productions in TCT’s early years. After retirement, Barbara enjoyed traveling around the country with her husband in their motor home. She was also an avid amateur photographer and enjoyed photographing all the places they visited in their travels. She was an accomplished seamstress and enjoyed sewing, knitting and crocheting for all of her family. Barbara was very much loved and liked by all and will be greatly missed by all those who knew her.
Barbara is survived by her beloved husband, John, of Tehachapi; daughter, Vyrlanne King, of San Diego; sons, John and wife, Michelle, of Tehachapi, Kevin and wife, Sharon, of Adelaide, Australia; 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, Charles McLaughlin of Oakhurst; her sister, Carole Bradley, of Visalia, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents in 1991 and great-grandson, John Jeffery Gray, in 1999.
Services were officiated by LDS Bishop Robert Anderson. Internment followed at Tehachapi Public Cemetery, Westside.
Wood Family Funeral Service handled the arrangements.
