Loring S. Briscoe, 83, passed away on Nov. 24 at the Tehachapi Hospital. He was born in Amoret, Mo. on June 21, 1923, to Frank and Belle Briscoe. He moved to California in the 1930s and graduated from Canoga Park High School in 1940. He served our country in World War II from 1941 to 1945. He was a member of the Military Police, and participated in the battle in New Guinea. He received an honorable discharge on June 18, 1946.
Upon discharge from the Army, Loring started his career in the retail grocery business and eventually managed grocery operations at Thriftimart-Fitzsimmons in Van Nuys. He joined the Frito-Lay Company in 1952, where he was employed for 35 years. He received the top honor of Salesman of the Year. He loved his job of delivering Frito-Lay products to markets so much that when he was offered management positions, he turned them down. He loved the interaction with people that his job provided him. The neighborhood children would wait for him to return from work each day so they could raid his Frito-Lay truck for their favorite snacks.
Loring met his wife, Andrea Brady, in 1945 at Thriftimart-Fitzsimmons and they married in 1946. They lived in the San Fernando Valley for 50 years. He resided in the Golden Hills area of Tehachapi since 1993 and truly enjoyed sharing the fresh air, delicious apples and quiet solitude of the Tehachapi area with his family and friends.
Loring enjoyed camping, fishing and thoroughbred horse racing. He loved sports and was an avid fan of the Los Angeles Angels and UCLA football and basketball. He enjoyed spending weekends watching and attending high school, college and professional sports events.
Loring was a loving husband and father. He is survived by his wife, Andrea; his four children, Kenneth Briscoe, of Carson City, Nev.; Paul Briscoe, of Tustin; Glenn Briscoe, of Canoga Park; Wayne Briscoe, of Los Angeles; and his five grandchildren, Erin, Ryan, Glenn, Ashley and James.
Memorial services will be held at Wood Family Funeral Service, in Tehachapi, at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 9. Internment will be at Oakwood Memorial Cemetery in Chatsworth.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Marisol Corpus – Patient Activities (LTC), for the long-term care patient activity fund at Tehachapi Hospital P.O. Box 1900, Tehachapi, Calif. 93581.
