0 responses 0 comments Joseph D. Allen, who opened Pioneer True Value Hardware on South Street in the Old Towne business district in 1978, succumbed to Alzheimer's Disease in Barstow on Jan. 18. He was born May 10, 1925 in Bakersfield.
During the years they owned Pioneer True Value, Joe and his wife, Joy Allen, were leaders in helping Old Towne business operators work cooperatively to improve the area's business climate. The Allens have resided in Barstow for the past few years.
Before he and his wife moved to Tehachapi, Allen was produce manager for the Safeway Store in Bishop for 30 years.
He is survived by his wife, Joy; daughter Linda Warejcka and husband Doug; sons, Joe Allen and wife Sandy, Terry Weger and wife Debbie, Richard Weger and wife Debbie and Lester Allen and wife Terry. Grandchildren are Stacey Weger, Tammy Mobly, Julie Allen, Wayne Allen and Cassidy McBride. He is also survived by four great-grandchildren and many close friends.
He will be remembered as a gentle, loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather. There will be no services.
