Once again, the Tomo Kahni Resource Center will be hosting an informative video series on Native American culture, local history and state parks.
The free public film series, held on Saturdays from 1:30 until 3:00pm, will begin on February 17th with “Visions in Stone,” an excellent look at the extraordinary rock art of the Coso Range. This is to be followed on February 24th with “Sacred Ground,” a program on the relationship of Native Americans to their land. On March 3rd, we will present “The First Americans,” which tells the story and science behind the peopling of the Americas. “The Obsidian Trail” will play on March 17th, and describes the use and trade of obsidian stone throughout eastern California.
Another film on Native American culture will follow on March 24th called “More Than Bows and Arrows.” March 31st will feature a video on the state parks of California. The film series concludes on April 7th with two short videos on California Indian Basketweaving.
The films are appropriate for all ages, and will be followed by a question and answer session. In addition, there will be local artifacts on display to see and discuss.
The Tomo Kahni Resource Center is located at 112 E. “F” Street, Suite A in downtown Tehachapi and is open on Fridays and Saturdays from 12:00 to 4:00 PM. A gift shop featuring books, clothing and other items related to local Native American culture is located at the Center, and proceeds from the shop fund maintenance of the facility, outreach and community programs.
