This story was written by the Tiger Cub Den 8 while on their field trip to the Tehachapi Newsroom.
Tiger Cub Den 8, from Cub Scout Pack 135 of Bear Valley, meets regularly on Thursday afternoons in the Cummings Valley Elementary School Cafeteria. Den Leader, Jamie McCord, leads the Tiger Cubs in fun activities that are directly related to a monthly theme.
“There is a cat in the front office,” said Jake.
Some of the previous themes have been, Cubs in Shining Armor, Cub Scout Stars, Poles Apart, Aloha Cub Scouts and Baloo Skies. Activities have included, making a scrapbook, creating a Family Crest, making star frames, making a scrimshaw, learning Hawaiian words and making lei's for the Blue and Gold Ceremony.
“The newsroom is kind of like Halloween,” said Cory referring to the bowl of candy in the editorial office.
Tiger Cub Den 8 have been on a field trip to the City Fire Department on Pinon Street, participated in the Christmas Parade downtown, participated in the Scouting for food drive, attended a Condors game, been on a hike around Cub Lake in Bear Valley and have been to the Tehachapi Library where librarian Kris Duke taught the Cub Scouts about the Dewey Decimal System and how to look up books on the computer.
In addition to all these fun activities the Tiger Cubs learn the Cub Scout promise, the Law of the Pack, the Cub Scout sign, motto, hand shake and salute. They also work toward Cub Scout Academic and Sport belt loops and pins.
In the end, Scouting is fun with a purpose. The Tiger Cubs are well on their way to developing strong character, good citizenship and healthy fitness habits.
