According to Senior Deputy Jim Craig of the Kern County Sheriff’s Department, warrants have been issued for the arrest of Jose Ramon Velez, 25, of Tehachapi, and Jose Martinez Bravo, 23, of Bakersfield, in the amount of $50,000 each, for a Hart Flat burglary.
Both Velez and Bravo have been the primary suspects of a KCSD investigation encompassing 11 Hart Flat Burglaries that occurred during November, 2006.
According to Craig, Velez came in for questioning in December, but has not been seen in the area since. Bravo is also wanted for questioning in conjunction with recent crimes occurring in the Bakersfield area.
“I tried something a little different with this one,” said Craig. “I tried to prove them innocent. The more I worked the case the more I couldn’t prove them innocent.”
Fingerprint and other evidence ultimately led Craig to the identification of both suspects when Hart Flat residents chased down a truck attempting to flee a burglary scene in the Hart Flat area. The truck crashed and the driver and passenger escaped on foot, but the vehicle was found with numerous stolen items inside, which were later returned to the owner.
Velez is a house painter who has been identified by Hart Flat residents who paid him for painting and construction services. Those residents and nearly a dozen like them were later victims of home burglaries.
Craig said that although he believes one or both of the suspects may also be connected to the other ten burglaries that occurred in the Hart Flat area last November, more evidence is still required to file additional charges.
According to the KCSD, Bravo currently has numerous outstanding warrants and both suspects have previously been arrested on various charges, including burglary, possession of stolen property and possession of a controlled substance.
If you have any information regarding the activities or whereabouts of either of these suspects, call Senior Deputy Jim Craig at 823-6040.
