Editor’s Note: This article is in response to the April 18 religious column “No winners and losers in God's eyes” by Rev. Diane G. Ryder, Pastor of Tehachapi Community Church.
I’d like to challenge a recent article.
The Bible teaches there are winners and losers in God’s eyes!
Proverbs 14:12 says, “There is a way which seems right to a man, But its end is the way of death.” More often than not, well-meaning people want to include all of mankind into God’s family without addressing sin and redemption. Jesus told the Pharisees in John 8: 44, “You are of your father the devil, and you want to do the desires of your father... (he) does not stand in the truth because there is no truth in him... he speaks from his own nature, for he is a liar and the father of lies.” (NASB)
Now, if there is a “father’”of lies that means there must be a “Father” of truth. Two families, two teams. One tells lies, the other tells the truth.
Now, consider this, some people will tell you that God loves everyone who is sincere. But you know, you can be sincerely wrong. For instance, you can sincerely believe that a vicious dog will not bite you, but if you get into his space, he won’t care one bit about your being sincere. You’re about to get bit! Some people will tell you about a Jesus who had a brother, Lucifer and if you’ll just be sincere about your trust in that Jesus, you may get to be the god of your own universe some day. Others will tell you that if you live good enough and work real hard believing in a Jesus who did not rise from the grave bodily but lived a good example for us you may get to a new earth some day. Still others say if you pray in a certain direction several times a day and sincerely follow the teachings of a man who was convinced that all who didn’t follow his religion should be put in subjection, you might get to paradise some day. If all faiths lead to God, He is not going to tell everyone who comes into His presence they are okay. To some He will say “depart from me for I never knew you.”
In John 14:6 Jesus said “I am the Way, the Truth and the Life...” Speaking of this same Jesus, Luke said in Acts 4:12, “…there is salvation in no one else; … no other name under heaven that has been given among men by which we must be saved.”
We should try to understand other faiths. However, Biblical truth is, there is only one way to God and that is through a saving faith in the resurrected Jesus. Only those who have placed their faith in Him are on His team.
And, oh by the way, Satan does try to make his “team” look just like God’s.
But good news! You can join His team. Seek out a Bible believing church this Sunday. They will tell you how you can join God’s team!
