The Barracuda swim team traveled to Ridgecrest on May 19 for a two-day High Point Swim Meet sponsored by the Indian Wells Valley Swim Team.
With 20 team members swimming for the Barracudas in the first swim meet of the season, the team came on strong taking the second place High Point Team Trophy after two days of high competition.

Head coach Tessa Brown was very pleased with the results and wishes to thank all the parents who pitched in to help at the meet.

This was a Team and Individual High Point meet where points were awarded for each event. The team and individual points were totaled up for High Point trophy awards.

Team members who swam to victory and earned individual High Point Trophy’s were: head coach Tessa Brown in the 15-and-over girls events, winning all eight of her events and setting a new meet record in the 100-yard breaststroke. Dominic Avalos won all of his events for the 11-year-old boys, while brothers Joshua and Jacob Avalos earned the 8-year-old and 6-year-old high points as well.

Team members Daniel Banks, Sean Banks, Savannah Barrett, Andrew Bartels, Daniel Bilger, Cody Brown, Jeremy Duke, Karlie Montoya, Vallerie Neang, Vanessa Neang, Vincent Neang, Dean Ruth, Mitch Ruth, Vivian Ruth, Andrew Sparling and Lexi Zimmerman swam fast, adding numerous points to earn the second place Team High Point trophy.

The Barracuda relay teams put on a show of swimming excellence. In the 200 freestyle, 13- and 14-year-olds relay, Vallerie Neang, Jeremy Duke, Vivian Ruth and Cody Brown stroked to victory taking first place. The 11- and 12-year-old relay team in the 200 freestyle with swimmers Andrew Sparling, Vanessa Neang, Lexi Zimmerman and Dominic Avalos won their event. There is still plenty of time to join the Barracuda swim team for the summer swim season. Contact Tehachapi Valley Recreation and Parks District or coaches Tessa Brown and Sara Brady at the pool Monday through Friday between 3 and 5 p.m.
The Barracuda swim team wishes to congratulate former Barracuda swimmer Michael Halaska in winning the 100-yard breaststroke event at the high school C.I.F. championships.
