The Jacobsen Middle School track season came to a close this past week with many Bulldog athletes leaving a strong impression on the quality of Tehachapi track and field.

Eight JMS students competed in the Kern County championships, with two of the athletes qualifying for the valley championship Meet in Fresno.
Competing in the county meet were Danielle Tildahl, Niko Taliulu, Michael Minjares, Jade Delgadillo, Austin Zehr, Heather Dearing, Tiffany Short, and AJ Snider, who bested some of the area’s best athletes to qualify for the prestigious event.

Tildahl brought in a fifth place finish in the youth 1500 meters, chipping 11 seconds off her best time. Taliulu also received fifth place in the youth shot put with a throw of 36’1”. Dearing received sixth place in the midget high jump, and reeling in seventh place finishes were Minjares in the youth 1500 meters, Delgadillo in the midget 1500 meters (besting time by eight seconds), and Zehr in the intermediate 1500 meters (besting time by two seconds).

“It was a great meet for us, the athletes that placed did very well,” said head coach Amy Lang. “Having two qualify for the valley meet was wonderful, they both made it by getting fourth place, a big accomplishment.”

Qualifying for the valley championship meet in Fresno were fourth place finishers AJ Snider in the youth high jump (4’5”) and Tiffany Short in the midget long jump (12’7”).

At the valley finals, Tehachapi competed with athletes from Kern, Fresno, Kings, Tulare, Madera, and Merced counties.

Both Snider and Short rose to the occasion against stiff competition, with Snider jumping a personal best 4’6” in the high jump for sixth place and Short taking in sixth place honors in the long jump with a final mark of 11’11”.

“It was a great end to a great season, we are very grateful to everyone who volunteered and the athletes that worked so hard,” added Lang. “We’re already looking forward to next year.”
