When asked who has the most Warrior spirit the first person who comes to my mind is a man who never thinks of himself, always of others, a person who does not even attend classes at THS. He is known as a coach, musician, event volunteer, and MC, who is no other than Micheal E. Heckathorn our very own school custodian.
He is the man behind the scenes of many of our school activities. By day he is our school custodian tending to the needs of school staff members and keeping our school campus clean and tidy.

After school hours he is known as a wonderful cross country coach, softball coach, middle school boys basketball coach Powder Puff referee, emcee for many school activities such as Lip Sync, Jazz Night, and Junior. Miss for as long as I can remember and unselfishly volunteers his time to many activities within a moments notice. And with all these things already on his agenda he still finds time as the lead vocalist in the local Tehachapi band Denim.

Without hesitation Mr. Heckathorn is willing to help out with anything. Mr. Heckathorn is as much a tradition as the THS events he hosts but he is best known for hosting the Tehachapi Junior Miss Pageant with his great sense of humor and crowd captivating personality.

To many THS athletes Mr. Heckathorn is known as Coach Heck, the tireless, inspirational, motivating, cross country, softball, and JMS basketball coach. Whether out on the cross country course, a field or court many can agree with senior Jenae Stainer that “He is a very encouraging coach. He isn't crazy and intense; when he is jumping up and down he is very positive.”

Jenae Stainer also mentioned Coach Heck's “four D's” desire, dedication, determination, and destiny and stated that “They apply to cross country, but can also be used in life too.”

Everything Mr. Heckathorn touches leaves an ever lasting impression of little town pride and unselfishness. Many leave THS with happy memories of Coach Heck, and the events he hosts that will stay with them for a life time. His teaching as a coach and pride in everything he is involved with are also valuable life lessons.
Heckathorn truly is the living definition of Warrior spirit.

Thank you Coach Heck for all you do.
