For the second meet of the season our Barracudas traveled to Bakersfield on June 2 and 3, swimming at the Rip Tide “Splash into Summer” two-day meet. With six teams and 343 swimmers participating there was great competition. This was also a High Point Meet where swimmers earned points by placing in each event they swam in. The swimmers in each age group with the highest total points were awarded the High Point trophy.
Head Coach Tessa Brown, who also competes, set the pace winning all of her events and taking the girls, 15 and over, first place High Point Trophy. In the 6 and under boy events, Vincent Neang swam fast taking the first place trophy with Jacob Avalos winning the third place trophy. Mitch Ruth won the third place trophy in the 7-year-old boys’ events. Our fast 8-year-old boys turned on the speed with Joshua Sparling winning all of his events and taking first place and Joshua Avalos winning second place. Vanessa Neang took the third place trophy in the 10-year-old girls’ events. In the 10-year-old boys’ events Andrew Sparling stroked to a second place Trophy. Dominic Avalos took second place and Dean Ruth took third place overall for the boys 11-year-olds. Colleen Chung won all of her events taking the first place trophy while Lexi Zimmerman won the second place trophy in the girls 12-year-old events. Lexi turned 12 this past weekend and put on a strong showing in her new age group. In the boys 12-year-old group Ethan Brill won the first place trophy and Ben Woodward took second place. Vivian Ruth picked up the speed and took the third place trophy in the 13-year-old girls’ events. Cody Brown, 13, put on an amazing race in his 100 freestyle and dropped four seconds, finishing in 59.78 which ultimately led to his first place high point finish for the weekend.
In the hard fought relay competition in the 200 Medley Relay 11 and 12-year-old event swimmers Ben Woodward, Morgan Stewart, Lexi Zimmerman and Dominic Avalos took second place. In the 13 and 14-year-old 200 Medley Relay Jeremy Duke, Cody Brown, Vivian Ruth and Colleen Chung also took second place.
The team wished to thank all the help from the team parents.
