On June 27, the Board of Trustees of Tehachapi Unified School District announced Dr. Richard L. Swanson as the new Superintendent of the district.
Dr. Swanson is currently serving as Superintendent/Principal of Warner Unified School District in Warner Springs, Calif. He has also served as superintendent of the Sierra-Plumas Joint Unified School District in Downieville, Calif. and Superintendent/Principal of the Owens Valley Unified School District in Independence.
Dr. Swanson will start work on August 1.

Welcome to Dr. Swanson! The Tehachapi Unified School District is a much bigger challenge than Dr. Swanson has previously managed -- about 10 times larger enrollment than the Sierra-Plumas Joint Unified School District of 523 students, about 23 times larger than the Warner Unified School District, and 72 times the size of the Owens Valley Unified School District. I hope he can live up to the expectations of the TUSD Board and handle the larger budgets, unions, and problems TUSD presents. Otherwise, it's going to be a very rough ride.
