Imagine you are eating pizza with your family at Little Caesar’s restaurant. Near your table are John and his wife, Betty. You notice that as John is eating his pepperoni slice of pizza, he is really enjoying it. You can hear him moan, “Mmmmmmmmmm. Pizza is so good.” But you notice that Betty has a different response as she eats the same pizza. And she says, “I don’t know why you are making such a big fuss about this pizza. It doesn’t taste that great to me.”
What’s the difference between John and Betty? Why is he enjoying the pizza more than Betty is, especially since they are eating the same pizza? As you watch John eat his pizza, you notice something unusual. You notice that he is eating his pizza upside down.
As strange as it may sound, eating pizza and many other foods upside is better than eating them right side up. Once you try eating food upside down, you will never want to eat food the old fashion way. For the next several minutes, I would like to prove to you why it’s best to eat pizza upside down. I would like you to see why eating pizza this way is by far the ultimate way of eating pizza. There are three persuasive reasons for eating pizza upside down. I hope that you will be so convinced to eat pizza this way that you will try it out the next time you eat pizza.
One reason you should eat food upside down is based on the location of taste buds. Where are most of your taste buds? . . . If you say, “On your tongue, you’re right.” Are there taste buds on the roof of your mouth? Yes, but not many. When it comes to pizza, where is most of the flavor, on the bottom side of the crust or on the top of the pizza? Obviously, there is more flavor on the top of the pizza where the cheese and all of the toppings are located. So why do you eat pizza right side up? Why do you put all of the delicious flavor from the toppings next to the roof of your mouth where there are very few taste buds? Why would you want to have the cheese and the pepperoni or the sausage against a part of your mouth that can’t even taste those things? By eating food upside down, you can actually taste all of the pizza’s ingredients better.
A second reason you should eat pizza upside down is because it will give you opportunities to help other people enjoy pizza more. Once people see you see eating pizza upside down, they will wonder why you are eating pizza that way. At that point, you will then be able explain to them what you have learned and how pizza tastes better. They will try your suggestion and realize that you knew what you were talking about.
A third reason you should eat pizza upside down is because once you have tried it that way, you will discover how you could eat other foods that way too. What is true about pizza is also true about other foods. Cake with frosting, and garlic or buttered toast are just a few examples of some other foods that could also be enjoyed upside down.
You may be wondering, “If I try eating pizza this way, won’t all of the toppings fall off?” No. The toppings should be able to stay on, but if you’re really worried about it, then you can bend your head to prevent the toppings from falling off as your mouth approaches the pizza. You may also be wondering, “If I eat pizza upside down, won’t I burn my tongue?” If the pizza is too hot, then you will burn your tongue no matter how you eat the pizza.
So, you should eat pizza upside down because of the location of your taste buds, because it will give you opportunities to help other people enjoy pizza more, and because once you have tried it that way, you will discover how you could eat other foods that way too.
You may be laughing to yourself as you’re reading this article, but TRY it! You’ll LIKE it! I, too, thought my dad was crazy when he encouraged me to eat pizza upside down.
