Up 6-2 at the beginning of the second half, Team White in the Junior Division Inline Hockey League Championship seemingly had the title all but wrapped up.

But then the Spartans’ Levi Lantz decided to join the hockey party.
The result, a thrilling 8-7 victory for Lantz’s Spartans, and a storybook ending in an overtime sudden-death championship.

Earlier in the contest, after the Spartans scored two consecutive goals by Lantz and Bryan Burris to make the score 3-2 in favor of Team White, the Spartan attack went stagnant.

But the Spartans began to chip away, first off a goal by  Lantz off an assist from Tyler Burns, then four consecutive second-half goals by Matt Ebersbacher, Spencer Hansen and Lantz to force an overtime.

In the five-minute extra session, Lantz scored the goal of the night in the championship series, rifling a shot that deflected and ricocheted over the goalie’s head, trickling past the paint-line.

The goal ended the game and won the championship for the Spartans, with Lantz finishing with five goals and two assists.

For Team White, Justin Lee and Nick Lee opened up the game with a goal apiece to make the score 2-0, while Gene Wahlstrom, Nick Lee and Zack Robbins also scored again midway through the contest to help their team tally seven goals overall.

John Baker had nine saves for Team White while the Spartans’ Ethan Devlin finished with seven saves at the goalie positions.

Baker also scored in the contest, finding the back of the net at 12:27 in the first period to help Team White go up, 2-0.

Team Black’s Erik Alvarado had the highlight stop of the afternoon, denying a goal on a 3-1 breakaway, eventually finishing with 17 stops in the contest overall. Peewee Division
The most offensive game of the championships had it all, high scoring and great comebacks in an 8-5 Icedog victory for the Peewee Division title.
Three minutes into the contest, the Icedogs’ Tyler Knight scored to put his team up 1-0.

The Redwings answered the deficit with a vengeance, reeling out five-straight goals to take a 5-1 lead at the halfway mark of the first period. Angel Garcia found the net three times for a hat trick, while Jake Hernandez and Darion Grisso connected with the back of net.

The seemingly insurmountable lead did not faze the Icedogs, however, orchestrating a strong run of their own to finish the contest with seven unanswered goals. Halftime ended with a 5-3 count in favor of the Redwings when the Icedogs’ Tyler Knight and Jordan LeValley scored in the waning minutes of the half.

Knight capped his stellar game with two more second half goals to finish with four overall, while LeValley and Shane Miller also had scores in the second half. The Redwings’ Blake Olson began the second period with three brilliant stops at net, finishing with 16 saves overall.
