There's lots to do this month so get on your horse and get involved. The Lilac Ranch Riding Club has a Day Camp scheduled for Aug. 13-17 and a playday on Aug. 18. For more information contact Melissa Moors, 822-7062, www.lilacranchridingclub.com.
The Bear Valley Springs Equestrian Center is also busy. The Buckaroos have a Ranch Sorting on Aug. 19 and Sept. 16. For more information call John Rush 821-1077.
The Bear Valley Springs Horse Show has its final show on Sept. 2. It includes all types of events from halter, trail class, western pleasure, jumping, reining and more. Our stud colt Plain Gold Colonel won the reining title at the July 1 show. For more information on all the events call CJ Magee 821-0202.

The Golden Gate Peruvian Horse Club is hosting its 16th annual open house on Aug. 11 at the Up N Cummings Ranch. Charles Brooks will give a talk on the Peruvians, followed by lunch, a demonstration and audience participation. Owners of Peruvians may bring their horses but must arrive by 9 a.m. The event is free. For further information and to RSVP please call Margie Gilliland 821-4626.
The Tehachapi Western Events Association had the second of its Ranch Sorting competitions and the final on Aug. 4 will go right down to the wire. The leaders are mother-and-son team Cheramy and Matt Krueger with 22 cows, Joy Webber and Cindy Buckwitz with 21 and Lisa Rotta and Buckwitz with 17. Last year, the lead changed three times in the final. The winners for the day sorted all their cows, so it went to those with the best time -- Rotta and Buckwitz (169.044), Webber and Buckwitz (193. 870) and the Kruegers (200.071).
TWEA will be at the Tehachapi Mountain Festival (Aug. 18-19) selling Flossie Flop tickets at the park. If the words Flossie flop are on your ticket you win. TWEA also has the last of the 3-series barrels race with the National Barrel Race Association on Aug. 25. The group also noted it has changed its monthly meeting place to the Mountain Crossing Restaurant. TWEA's next meeting is Aug. 6. Jeremy Dunn of the JB Cattle Company in Rosamond was selected as one of 100 trainers to take part in the Extreme Mustang Makeover in Texas, sponsored by the Mustang Heritage Foundation. It will be aired on RFD-TV.
The Moonraker Ranch is hosting a BBQ fund-raiser for Dunn on Aug. 11, to help pay for the September trip to Texas. Dunn will also give a demonstration of his work on his mustang, "Ojos.” and there will be raffle prizes and a silent auction. The Tehachapi Mountain Rodeo Queen Pageant Committee is hosting a dinner on Aug. 11 at the historic Souza Ranch in Cummings Valley.
