Visitors old and young alike, enjoyed “Donkey Days” a block party celebration held in Old Town Tehachapi, next to the South Fork Inn and Ranch Service & Supply.

The day’s attractions included a display of vintage cars and trucks, while a variety of food and even “adult beverages” were offered inside the giant “Portable Pub,” next to the entertainment, provided by “Denim.” A portion of the proceeds generated by food sales benefitted the local American Legion Ladies Auxiliary’s support of our troops.

Others enjoyed shopping for unique gifts and crafts and the chance to pet a donkey and other friendly critters. Especially popular with the younger set were the petting zoo and pony rides provided by “My Pony Go Round.”

Various animals were available for the children to pet and learn about; from ponies donkeys, goats, pigs, ducks and bunnies to a great-big barnyard Jersey cow.

Also attracting attention was “Sahara,” a 9-foot Albino Burmese Python, one of many rescued creatures who now lives at Peaceful Valley Donkey Rescue, in Sand Canyon, along with Adelaide, the bearded dragon and their furry donkey friends.

The Kern County Sheriff's Department’s Citizen Service Unit was on hand to register children’s fingerprints and the Kern County Fire Department familiarized the little ones with the importance of “911” and fire safety.
