Hi everyone,
I'd like to, as a member of both, clear up some confusion regarding Tehachapi Community Theater (TCT) and the Tehachapi Performing Arts Center (TPAC).
TCT is a Theater Group that produces (excellent!) theatrical shows for, from, with and by, the local community.
TPAC is a group of Tehachapi's finest citizens who are in the process of the planning, funding, and building of a Performing Arts Center for the community of Tehachapi.
Recent Events for Both:
TCT has 'gone dark' (but not silent) in preparation for the building of the BeeKay Theater downtown, in which they will be the sole resident. Tehachapi will, finally, be the proud host to it's own legitimate LIVE THEATER troupe!! And the location couldn't be better -- right down the street from the Hitching Post movie theater. Don't like the movies being offered? Walk down the block and see what's up in LIVE entertainment! It bodes to be a fantastic bonus for downtown! TCT will soon be seeking out sponsorships, partnerships, and just plain donations for the interior space and mechanical needs of the new Theater. Monetary assistance will also include the building of an "Annex" building on the east end of the new theater with construction/painting shop spaces, costume shop, makeup room, rehearsal hall and storage spaces for the theater. Want your name on a building in downtown?
TPAC is in the final planning stages for the Performing Arts Center. Currently, we're going through the "greening" of the facilities. The process has been long and difficult at times -- but the dream is still alive at this time. Hopefully, in the [near?] future, a Performing Arts Center will grow from the sagebrush for use by all artists -- performing, musical, crafts, painters, sculptors, singers, dancers, photographers, et. al.. We have tried to make the space as 'multi-user friendly' as possible, without losing a uniqueness of design that will give the building its character in the community.
I truly hope that this short note serves to clarify that there are TWO (separate) groups currently 'moving and shaking' in the Arts Community of Tehachapi. And, I hope that everybody who reads this will simply GET INVOLVED. This Community has a wonderful 'glut' of talent and brains. That's one of the things that makes us such a great community -- we've been blessed with both in abundance. Don't hide your light behind a bush.
Last Note: I personally would like to offer a HUGE Thank You to the City of Tehachapi (Greg & Jason especially) for making the dream of a home, a real theater, come true for the grateful and talented members of the Tehachapi Community Theater. All we've ever needed was an opportunity. We'll make you proud!

Thanks Tehachapi!!
