Last week I wrote about past Tehachapi Mountain Festivals — this week I’m featuring photos of this year’s parade, which was a colorful mix of annual entries.
One big difference was the appearance of the downtown area itself. While last year’s parade watchers had to negotiate around piles of dirt, unpaved sidewalks and dusty streets, those in attendance this year had attractive brick crosswalks, new sidewalks, trees, even benches in many locations — a huge improvement.
The widespread sound system, used to provide music to shoppers, diners and visitors to the downtown, worked well for Tehachapi’s own parade announcing team of Dan Jackson and Barbara Shaw.
The weather was a warm but not sweltering 86 degrees Fahrenheit with a slight breeze, perfect for a parade.
For those of us who have attended many Mt. Festival parades, including my neighbor Hooks Anderson, 90, who had a front row seat, it was great to see and hear the familiar blend of beautiful horses, talented marching bands, energetic young people, loud sirens, classic cars, waving politicians, local business entries and Shriners stuffed into miniature custom vehicles.
Some things change while others (thankfully) remain the same. . .
Have a good week.
