Some recent news articles haven't portrayed the Stallion Springs meeting last Tuesday, August 21st to my liking. My take on what occurred is as follows:
A resolution was put on the agenda in which a member of the Cummings Valley Protection Agency (CVPA) requested that the Board of Directors terminate consideration of annexing property outside Stallion Springs.
Before anything happened, legal representation indicated that such an action was, for the most part, not legally binding and certainly not in the best interests of Stallion Springs residents. Why? Because, at some future date and for some currently unknown reason, the Stallion Springs residents may want something to say about what happens to property in the Cummings Valley.
At this time, no vote or action will be taken on this agenda item.
Several members of the CVPA spoke and indicated that they did not want anything but agricultural zoning in the valley. Some speakers were thoughtful and others rambled on, never making a point that could be understood. Many, many speakers repeated what had previously been said, which caused this part of the meeting to drag on until past 9:30 p.m. Some residents spoke about their desire to receive additional information before decisions are made and this was repeated several times.
Because literature distributed by the CVPA had made several accusations about the Board members being "pro-development," and being in the "GM's pocket" and "secret meetings were being held," each board member spoke and indicated that this information was incorrect and in the future, such accusations should be verified before being made. It was verified that no CVPA member had spoken to any one of the Board members regarding these accusations.
An October date is set for the development proposal to be presented.
Now an opinion or two: It appeared to me that the CVPA got the horse about 100 miles out before the cart by asking the Board to consider not obtaining any further information about the proposed development by the sod farms. Personally, I was delighted the Board took the approach they did. I can't exactly figure why the CVPA would want the Board and Stallion Springs residents to stop efforts at receiving all the information they could, from all sources available, and then, and only then, make the best decision possible. It makes the intentions of the CVPA a little suspicious and their tactics misleading.
