At the June 21 Division Council Meeting of Kiwanis International, former Lt. Governor of Division 33, Wayne Deats, recognized the Kiwanis Club of Tehachapi as one of the three distinguished clubs for 2005/2006. Division 33 is part of the California-Nevada-Hawaii District of Kiwanis International.
At the July 10 club meeting, President Ben Graham presented Joeann King, the 2005/2006 club president, with the Distinguished Club Award and lapel pin in recognition of her leadership for the year.
The Kiwanis Club is one of many service clubs in Tehachapi and takes pride in supporting the youth of our area. Among the activities we support are: Awarding scholarships to worthy graduating seniors at Tehachapi High School, camperships for the local Boy Scout Troop 136, the Salvation Army and Tehachapi Valley Recreation and Parks District programs. The club also sponsors a Key Club at Tehachapi High School as well as the local prayer breakfast, during the National Day of Prayer.
Kiwanis is also happy to consider requests from the community.
The club meets at noon every Wednesday at Cattlemans Grill. Anyone interested in attending is welcome. For more information contact President Ben Graham at 822-2312, or Joeann King at 823-7137, or Dick Patteson at 821-7251.
