Tompkins Elementary is offering a free after school program entitled the Tompkins Enrichment & Academic Mentoring program for all Tompkins Elementary students. Our program is paid for by grant funds from the state of California. There is no direct cost to you or your family.

The program is run by co-directors Kim Grimes and her brother-in-law Jason Grimes. Kim is a third grade teacher at Tompkins and Jason is a special education teacher at Tompkins.

The program operates after school each day from the end of the school day until 6:17 p.m. There is an early release policy for student's involved in out of school activities (sports, religion, music lessons, etc.).

The Tompkins Enrichment and Academic Mentoring program's mission is to provide a supplemental educational and enrichment opportunity for our students.  We want students to experience how fun learning can be. Each day the program will have a free nutritious snack, an opportunity to work on his/her homework, tutoring in math and reading, and a wide array of recreation and enrichment activities.

Some of the enrichment activities will include gardening, art, photojournalism, strategic games, music, graphic arts, fitness, dance, and cheerleading. Participation in our program affords your child an extra 90 days of learning.

We value the time with your child and the opportunity we have to “Level the Playing Field” by providing support to your child as he/she builds the capacity to succeed. Our goals are to increase success and achievement in school. We are striving to improve literacy, communication skills, math skills and increase attendance and positive feelings about school.

This program not only focuses on the academics, but also focuses on social skills, behavior, and the well being of the child. To enroll your child, please come to Tompkins and complete an application. We do have a maximum amount of students that we can accept, so your prompt attention to the enrollment paperwork is appreciated.
