Chadeau Mountain Clydesdales was established by Chuck Lewter, a local Kern County Firefighter, in Tehachapi in 1993. The current herd sire, Robyncroft Perfect Son (aka “Sonny”) is a multi grand champion stallion and the grandson of the most recognized and awarded Clydesdale stallion of all time - Ayton Perfection.
Sonny has been shown extensively on the West Coast and as far east as the Michigan Great Lakes Invitational. In January of this year, he was shown at the National Western Stock Show where he won Reserve Grand Champion. Just recently he was awarded 1st place at the Ventura County Fair and Grand Champion Stallion. He then went on to the Rocky Mountain Regional Draft Show in Utah and won 2nd Place in the Halter Division, Reserve Senior Champion, Reserve Grand Champion, and Best American Bred Stallion.
Equally impressive are the new herd mares, Scotchwind P.S. Grace, and the latest member to join the group, Cornerview’s Patty. Grace was awarded 1st place, and Grand Champion Mare at the Ventura County Fair, and 2nd Place in Utah, only to be surpassed by Patty, who achieved the titles of Grand Champion and Supreme Champion Mare in Halter.
Also competing in the Halter Gelding Division was Maplewood Gypsy’s Cody, owned by Portland Ream, who pleasantly surprised everyone when she showed him for the very first time and he won Grand Champion Gelding, all breeds at Ventura, and 2nd Place and Reserve Champ Gelding at Utah. Portland is 16 years old, so this is quite an achievement.
Together these four horses weigh-in at around 7,500 pounds, which is about the equivalent of weight of a fully loaded Ford Excursion, or an older 5th wheel RV, and heavier than the average adult female African Elephant. These Gentle Giants, from our own little town, are becoming well known across the US and always qualify for the All-American competition sponsored by the Clydesdale Breeders Association of the USA.
The Clydesdales and their team members recently participated in the Tehachapi Mountain Festival Parade, wherein the show wagon was unveiled for the first time. As this farms breeding and show program continues to grow and develop, they look forward to being a bigger and more impressive ambassador for the community of Tehachapi.
The team plans to compete with their horses at the Pomona County Fair at the end of the September, and then on to the long awaited, highlight of the year: The World Clydesdale Show in Wisconsin in mid-October. Chadeau Mountain Clydesdales is actively seeking sponsorships to help send them to the World Clydesdale Show in Michigan. For more information, please contact Chuck Lewter at 333-3519.
