The Vagina Monologues
Begins Thirty-ninth Season For
Tehachapi Community Theatre

TCT's Annette Kirby has announced plans for Eve Ensler’s moving play about women, The Vagina Monologues, opening on Sept 29.
Kirby is gathering a variety of women to perform the show, so the cast will vary from venue to venue.  The first performance will be at Mel White’s Tehachapi Art Center, in benefit of Alliance Against Family Violence & Sexual Assault in Bakersfield, in observation of October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month.  Jeri Parr, the Outreach Administrator for AAFVSA is delighted that TCT will be kicking off their October campaign.

"When Jeri and I spoke, I was truly amazed and touched at how far this organization goes.  A rape victim is not only accompanied to the hospital, but is also provided with a set of clean clothes, a towel and a complete set of toiletries." Kirby went on to say, "Victims of domestic violence are housed in the shelter up to 45 days and sometimes even helped to escape from the area."  The AAFVSA has served over 600 women and children this year alone.

Tehachapi Art Center at 106 S. Mojave St. and Mama Hillybean's Coffee & Community at 426 E. Tehachapi Blvd. will have a receptacle placed to collect items for the shelter.  Kirby is encouraging other businesses and groups to participate by collecting for the shelter. To join in leave a message at TCT’s Hotline 822-4037.
