Tehachapi Community Theatre has been granted the use of classroom space for TCT's fall schedule of classes by the TUSD Board of Trustees.

"TCT is thrilled to work with the Board of Trustees and to use actual classroom space on the Jacobson Middle School Campus. Superintendent, Dr. Swanson, Board President, Gary Warner and the Board have been very generous in allowing us to provide theatre classes for children and adults,” commented TCT Board President Karl Schuck.

Make-up Class

Dr. Doug Jockinsen will teach Secrets of Pro Makeup, Tuesdays from 6 to 8 p.m., September 25, October 2, 9, 16, 23 & 30 in Room 104. The class will include monster and gore makeup just in time for Halloween. The fee for the class is $105 which includes a syllabus for the course, and a complete Professional Makeup Kit which students will keep.

Jockinsen, who promises “A splendid time for all,” is a former theatre professional who studied under artist Abel Zeballos (the make-up designer for The Planet of The Apes). Abel won two Tony Awards and one Emmy for makeup, as well as the Oscar for 'Apes'.

Jockinsen polished his makeup skills doing thousands of monster and gore make-ups at Knott’s Berry Farm’s Halloween Haunt for 16 years, as well as in his professional career as a Stage Manager. The course is open to high school students and adults. To reserve a seat call the TCT Hotline at 822-4037, and leave your name and telephone number.

Children’s Acting Classes

Monica Nadon will be teaching the children's acting classes in Room 107. Acting for the Theatre will meet October 2, 9, 16 & 23. Nadon will teach the basics including theatre and improvisation games, stage direction, blocking and auditioning. In addition, diaphragmatic breathing will be taught to help the actors project their voices. All of this will be fun and will help build confidence in performing.

Lights! Camera! Action! The Film Acting class will meet October 30, November 6, 13 & 27. Students will learn how to act for the camera and discover the different techniques for acting in commercials and film. They will learn to “hit” their mark, look into the camera eye and gain knowledge of film terminology. The best part of class will be seeing themselves on the T.V. monitor during the playbacks!

Instructor Monica Nadon has a degree in Theatre Arts from CSU Fresno. She has performed in Edinburgh, Scotland’s, Theatre Fringe Festival and studied film acting and improvisational acting in Los Angeles for over ten years.

Monica was a member of the improv troupe “Improv Inferno” and performed at the Comedy Store and the famous Ice House in Pasadena. Her film and TV credits include two movies, a talk show and an industrial film. She has been a member of TCT for over five years and has performed in and directed numerous plays for TCT, including last year’s favorites, Little Women and The Adventures of Robin Hood.

Classes will be held one day a week for a four week session for children aged 8 to 13 years old at Jacobsen Middle School. Each class is 1½ hours long, from 4:15 p.m. to 5:45 p.m. on Tuesday afternoons. A four week session is $60.00, payable at the first class meeting. To register, call the TCT Hotline at 822-4037. Leave your name and phone number, and specify which class you are signing up for.
