Tehachapi Community Theatre will present the first showing of Eve Ensler's The Vagina Monologues this Saturday night at 7 p.m. Hosting the event will be Tehachapi Art Center, located at 106 S. Mojave Street, across from The Appleshed.  It will be an outdoor performance, so bring a jacket!

The Vagina Monologues, both in book and visual form, is one of the most moving experiences of our times. An attempt to enlighten, entertain and to bring a "taboo" out of the shadows.  The Vagina Monologues is a heartfelt celebration of female sexuality and a condemnation of those who attempt to suppress it.  Alternating between humor, sadness and outright anger, the play attempts to take in all aspects and attitudes.

Casting for each performance will showcase a different set of women. Making their TCT debuts for this showing, are Mel White and Terri Asher.  Mel is a well known photographer and and owner of Tehachapi Art Center and Crossroads Gallery.  Terri is a local singer, guitar player, and graphic artist. Rounding out this cast  will be Jackie Lawlor and Annette Kirby, the list of plays these two have under their belt is a long one.

This first performance is in benefit of Alliance Against Family Violence & Sexual Assault in Bakersfield, in observation of October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month.  Jeri Parr, the Outreach Administrator for AAFVSA is delighted that TCT will be kicking off their October campaign.

Tehachapi Art Center and Mama Hillybean's Coffee & Community (426 E. Tehachapi Blvd.) will have a receptacle placed to collect items for the shelter.

Here is a list of items they are always in great need of:

Travel and full sized toiletries; shampoo, deodorant, bar soap, toothpaste.

Feminine hygiene products and diapers.

New or Gently Used twin sheets, towels, t-shirts (long or short sleeved) and sweatpants.
