The Tehachapi Western Events Association has a Moonlight Trail & Poker Ride on Oct. 13. Dinner will be at 5 p.m. at the Jack Springs Ranch, Stallion Springs, and the ride will follow at dark along the Sheep Trail.
Final results of the TWEA/NBHA Barrel Race Series and the Trail Trials are in. The winners of the three-series barrel races included: 1D - first place, Lisa Stafford on Sweet Dough and second Jaclyn Wagner on Cinnamon; 2D - Cindy Ritchea (Leo Sneakin Sam), Julia Stevens (Ginger), Kim Bilson (Reba), Lisa Stafford (Peso) and Cindy Richea (Gailbraith Tiny Roan); 3d - Kim Bilson (Toby), Verna Wemple (Lil Cindy Chic), Katie Leighton (Destiny), Trish Stevens (Lonesome) and Teda Hudson (Skid); 4D - Sandi Maxwell (Baldy), Melissa Stephey (Fancy), Jaclyn Wagner (Commands to Rock), Melissa Stephey (Skip) and Verna Wemple (Cheetah); Youth - Julie Stevens (Ginger).
The winners of the September Trail Trails were:
Youth: Morgan Gibbs on Lacey Emotions (105.956), Knut Haught on Arizona (174.728) and Alyssa Adams on Ronnie (264.622).
“Open” winners were Trish Stevens on Lonesome (125.321), Marcia Williams on Toby (162.021) and Susan Wellington on Vicky (181.744).

The Lilac Ranch in Tehachapi has is a Herd Reduction Sale on Oct. 6-7. Those looking to either buy or sell a horse are welcome. If interested in selling a horse, the fee is $50 per horse. The ranch also has the last of its Playdays on Oct. 27 and is planning a Fall Day Camp on Nov. 19-21 and Dec. 26-29. For more info contact Melissa Moors, 822-7062, www.lilacranchridingclub.com.
Moors also working with the Wild Wind Ranch (Highline Road, Tehachapi) to host an Extreme Speed Gymkhana series starting in October and running through May, with12 races in all, weather permitting. The first one is Oct. 7. Entrants must compete in eight to be eligible for prizes. The events will include barrels, poles and a mystery speed race. The cost is $35 per day, plus a one-time $50 membership fee.
She's also helping to run the Harvest Horse Festival at the Clear Creek B Ranch (Noah Beery Jr., Ranch, Hart Flat) on Oct. 27 from 4-7pm. There will be a "trick or treat trail ride", mounted cakewalk, horse & rider costume contest, pumpkin carving, haunted barn and more. The cost is $15, and includes a pizza dinner.
The Bar Double J Ranch on Cameron Canyon Road is hosting an Open House on Oct. 20 from noon to 5 p.m. The event will showcase the horses the ranch has for sale along with the ranch's stallions available for breeding including grullo Tees Black Gold and buckskin Plain Gold Colonel, who had two firsts and a second in the Open Reining competition at the Bear Valley Springs Horse Show. Visitors also can check out the ranch's stable and riding facilities for boarding. Refreshments, prizes and music will be offered. Jeremy Dunn, who grew up in Tehachapi and trains in Rosamond, recently placed 12th out of a 100 on his horse Ojos at the Extreme Mustang Makeover in Fort Worth, TX. Ojos later sold for $6,000 at the day-after auction to Lifesavers, which wants him to continue his training and make appearances on behalf of the mustangs.
Dunn also is giving lessons at Summertime Farms in Rosamond on Tuesdays and Saturday at $35 a session. His Broken Arrow Ranch, also in Rosamond, is hosting a Richard Caldwell clinic on Oct. 6-7, and also a horsemanship clinic at Summertime Farms Oct. 20. ETI Corral 83, Tehachapi Mountain Riders have a lunch ride on Oct. 4 in Stallion Springs. The group also has a ride and camping trip to Montana DeOro on Oct. 21-26. Prices vary on how many days you stay. For more information contact Susan Wellington at 822-8131.
The High Spirits Therapeutic Equestrian Program has a Fund-Raiser BBQ & Demonstration on Oct. 6. The group works with special needs riders. Tickets are $10 and includes a raffle ticket. For more information contact Alice Coghlan, 822-7272.
