On Sunday October 14th , the Tehachapi Rose & Garden Society (TRGS) will hold its 3rd Annual Plant and Seed Exchange. Plants are exchanged one for one (up to five per person). Each person that brings in a plant can take home a plant or some seed packets of their choice. Plant shoppers can get some great bargains at this event even if they don’t bring a plant because, non-TRGS members can purchase one for as little as $2.00. At this price, one can landscape an entire garden with quality locally grown plants.
The TRGS will have a variety of plants to choose from. You’ll find Spider plants to Butterfly bushes;. Irises; Succulents, Cacti, Sweet Pea & Poppy seeds and much, much more. You may even consider starting a water garden with locally grown water lilies and irises.
Be sure to check out the indoor plants too. They make wonderful house warming gifts for Thanksgiving. Create a handcrafted living gift by adding a pretty autumn colored pot, some ribbons and a bow. It will bring cheer & warmth to your family and friends homes for the holiday and is a gift that will be well remembered since it will last long after you’ve come home.
The cooler October weather is just right for planting perennials and will provide them enough time to settle in to their new homes before the winter weather sets in. So stock up for fall color and spring time blooms!
The TRGS Plant Exchange is from 4:30pm- 5:30pm at the Veterans Hall located at 125 E. “F” Street. For more information contact Dexter Reese at 823-8402.
