Rain, hail, wind and cold temperatures did not slow down the generosity of hundreds of Tehachapi residents as they contributed to the Tehachapi Lions annul White Cane Days. This year's campaign was the most successful yet for donations from individuals. The Lions anticipate the generosity of corporate donations, some of which are still outstanding, will cause this to be a banner year.
Albertsons, KMart and Save Mart donated space in front of their stores for Lion volunteers to collect individual donations on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 5 and 6. Thirty-one Lion volunteers donated 80 hours of their time on Friday and Saturday to collect donations, which will stay in the community and assist children and adults to obtain necessary eye exams and eye glasses. The beneficiaries of these services have no other way to obtain the exams or glasses.
Several residents related that Lions had paid for and bought their first pair of eyeglasses when they were children. They stated these glasses made a huge difference in their lives and in their educational opportunities. Through the generosity of Tehachapi residents Lions will help children and adults see. Children can learn when they have corrected vision. Adults can work when they have corrected vision.
