Happy Halloween everyone…
During the last few weeks, the city has seen a flurry of activity and many of our current projects are starting to show significant progress. Please let me take a minute to update you, as you may be wondering which projects to look out for.
One of our most exciting community projects is the restoration of the Historic Train Depot on Tehachapi Boulevard. As you pass by the depot you will see that the building is really starting to take shape. A beautiful new viewing deck is under construction and we will begin refinishing the siding soon.
I'd also like to point out that new traffic control measures will be showing up in strategic places, to make our city roads safer for automobiles and pedestrians. Signal modification at Valley Boulevard and Curry Street has been completed and we will soon see that little green arrow that tells us when we can turn. In addition, a new signal at Valley and Snyder is in the preliminary design phase and stop signs will be installed at “E” and Mojave, Sutter and South Green, and Brentwood and South Green.
Infrastructure and restoration are not our only projects, however. In 2009, we will be celebrating the 100th birthday of our beautiful city. In anticipation of this historic time, we are already planning celebration efforts that will be enjoyed by our entire community. If you have any ideas on how to make this celebration even better, you are welcome to submit ideas to Rebecca Bergstrom at city hall.
Finally, I was recently recommended for appointment to the Kern County Air Pollution Control District as a representative for Eastern Kern County. Continuing to have clean air is very important to all of us and having representation on this committee will help to assure that.
Like I have always said, our “Quality of Life” in Tehachapi continues to get better. Have a good week and keep smiling.
