Robyncroft Perfect Son (aka "Sonny"), and Chuck Lewter, of Chadeau Mountain Clydesdales, really outdid themselves at the recent World Clydesdale Show, held in Madison Wisconsin. After four long weary days of driving over 1955 miles each way, with very little sleep, and tireless hours of preparation for the show, the rewards finally paid off.
Sonny was truly competing against the very best Clydesdales in the United States and Canada. In the Stallion Halter Class, in his age group, Sonny placed an amazing Second Place! In the Stallion Cart Class, Sonny placed Fourth, against some of the toughest competition in Clydesdale history!
It was surely a sight to behold! Imagine 2000 pounds of horseflesh thundering in the arena, and then times that by eight! Literally the ground would shake as the horses motored by, heads high, legs and hocks reaching high up and then pounding into the ground and moving at amazingly fast trots, while their drivers made it seem so effortless: carriages shining, harnesses glistening, chrome sparkling and bells jingling with each hoof beat!
Show preparation is really a mind boggling prospect of washing horses, endless grooming, cleaning stalls, feeding and exercising horses, polishing tack, and checking everything for safety, and then checking again for good measure.
There were people who came from Scotland, and Clydesdale Breeders from all over the world. Over 500 hundred Clydesdales came from all over to compete in this competition. Also present was the Budweiser Clydesdales, and their trusty Dalmatian, Bud, of course. They also brought a 19.5 hand Clydesdale that didn't get to do much but stand their and look like a two-story building, since it would be nearly impossible to find a horse that would match him in size or let alone, a harness that would fit him.
All and all it was an incredible experience, and many thanks to Chuck Lewter, the Street family, and all the local friends and businesses who have shown such great support in preparation for this awesome event!
